Virtual Reality Embodiment in Motor Imagery Brain–Computer Interface Training

چکیده

This study investigates how the avatar embodiment in virtual reality (VR) influences training for operation of motor imagery brain–computer interfaces (MI-BCIs). In previous studies, we demonstrated possibility to induce a BCI-based VR (using mental commands instead motion tracking) purposes facilitation. paper examines relationship between BCI performance and subjective levels embodiment, as well differences achieved with two different environments. MI-BCI variants following forms feedback were studied: a) exploiting immersive (avatar movements indicating user performance), b) gamified progressively paced training, c) symbolic standard Graz protocol. On-line from experiments questionnaires on sense ownership agency toward studied. Questionnaire analysis showed that robust arose environments, strong correlation reported avatar. Interestingly, was uncorrelated both agency. Using gamification further increased (but not ownership) session. Embodiment mediated by synchrony visual stimulation under conditions than based visuo-motor synchrony. Consistency perceived plays more important role ability issue correctly. These findings help elucidate positive effect initial steps can be leveraged future designs.

The Sense of Embodiment in Virtual Reality

What does it feel like to own, to control, and to be inside a body? The multidimensional nature of this experience together with the continuous presence of one’s biological body, render both theoretical and experimental approaches problematic. Nevertheless, exploitation of immersive virtual reality has allowed a reframing of this question to whether it is possible to experience the same sensati...

Neurofeedback-based motor imagery training for brain-computer interface (BCI).

In the present study, we propose a neurofeedback-based motor imagery training system for EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI). The proposed system can help individuals get the feel of motor imagery by presenting them with real-time brain activation maps on their cortex. Ten healthy participants took part in our experiment, half of whom were trained by the suggested training system and the o...

GREENSPACE: Virtual Reality Interface for Combine Operator Training

The complexity of operating a farm combine has increased dramatically in recent years with the introduction of features including automatic guidance, precision farming, and sophisticated implements with specialized controls. In this work, we describe the development of a virtual reality interface for use in operating a combine while harvesting virtual crops. Using the actual combine cab hardwar...

Virtual Reality in Surgical Training

Virtual reality promises to change the world of surgical training and practice. Just as flight simulators revolutionized pilot training, human simulators will become the medical classrooms of the future. Surgeons will be able to train on simulated human models, perfecting their techniques without even entering an operating room. Recent advances in computer technology have placed these exciting ...
